Reception at Hotel Tilko on the occasion of the 68th Republic Day of India

We have come to know that Tamil Students from the Northern Province have not shown much interest to apply for Indian Scholarships as we expected. We have been trying to promote for this 100 percent free education facilities. However, we are at dismay and do not know the reason behind it, said the Consul General of India A.Nadarajan in Jaffna. He made this observation while speaking at reception held in Jaffna, Tilko hotel to mark the India’s 68th Republic Day celebrations. Speaking further, Mr.A.Nadarajan said that the government of India through the Consulate General of India in Jaffna is assisting for the restoration works of Mannar Thirukketheeswaram temple at a cost around Rs.346 million. We are also construction of Agricultural and Engineering faculties for Jaffna University in Killinochchi at a cost of Rs.600 million. We are also constructing a cultural Centre in Jaffna at Rs.2 billion. Recently we have donated Rs.300 million for rain water harvesting in Jaffna. We want factories to be opened in the Northern Province and provide employment opportunities. After the war we have renovated 77 schools in the Northern Province and provided Rs.300 million to renovate advance level schools in the province. However, we are concerned the advance level students in the Northern Province have not used these 100 percent scholarship facilities the Indian government provides for them. We are disseminating the necessary information, yet the students have not made much advantages of the scholarships, the Consul General pointed out.
