Not only Madurai Tamil but also Madurai Jasmine’s aroma spread in Jaffna, enthusiastically told Mr.Natarajan, Consul General of India in Jaffna.  Mr. Natarajan, who participated at the Kamban Vizha held in Madurai on 17 December 2017, made the following remarks:

It is only the Tamils who preserve their language and culture wherever they live. Madurai is famous for Pattimandrams. Madurai has many unique characteristics. Madurai Tamil is beautiful. Madurai preserved the literary Tamil. This city has a place where 7 stones emit 7 Swaras. This city made Gandhiji, who used to wear coat and suit, wear Veshti.  Though many people govern the city, it is Meenadchi who governs the city permanently. There are many more identities of Madurai. One of them is Jasmine.

We bought Jasmine saplings from Madurai and grew them in Jaffna. Now Madurai Jasmine’s aroma spreads throughout the Northern Province of Sri Lanka.

There are so many poets in the world. But it is Bharathy who is the greatest of all.  Tamils celebrate Subramaniya Bharathy wherever they live. Tamils in Sri Lanka too celebrate Bharathy. But he was not that popular when he lived. Less than twenty people attended his funeral. But his thoughts were splendid. I am very proud to participate in this event.  I belong to the district where Bharathy was born.

There is no other country in the world that can match the rich culture. Many have colonized our country. But we did not forget our culture. We should live with positive thinking and we should be united.
