The railway line over the water was destroyed by the cyclonic storm in the 1960s.
Relations between Sri Lanka and India have calmed down for some time, and could continue thanks to the project to build a bridge between the two countries.
It is only when we gain height, then more and more until reaching the satellites of NASA, that we distinctly see an isthmus, across the sea, connecting India and Sri Lanka. Called Adam’s Bridge or Rama’s Bridge, it is a string of shoals stretching between Danushkodi at the end of the Indian island of Pamban in the extreme southeast of the country, and Talaimannar on the Sri Lankan island of Mannar, less than thirty kilometers away.
