Sri Lankan military officials stand guard in front of the St. Anthony's Shrine, Kochchikade church after an explosion in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan police said on Wednesday April 24 that they had found no evidence of the direct involvement of the Islamic State (IS) group in the Easter attacks in Sri Lanka, for which the jihadist organization claimed responsibility.

Simultaneous attacks on churches and hotels in Colombo and the eastern part of the country claimed the lives of more than 250 people on Easter Sunday, April 21. The head of the Islamic State (IS) organization, Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, appeared on April 29 in an 18-minute video recording released by the jihadist propaganda organ, Al Furqan, in which he claimed responsibility for operations carried out by his group , including the one that killed 253 people in Sri Lanka.

“Based on the investigations conducted so far, there is not sufficient evidence to say that there is a direct link between ISIS and the Easter attacks , “ said head of the judicial police, Ravi. Seneviratne, before a parliamentary commission this Wednesday, April 24.

Police said the attacks were carried out by two Sri Lankan Islamist groups, the National Thawheedh Jamaath (NTJ) and the Jamathei Millathu Ibrahim.
