British tour operator TUI announces that it will repatriate all of its customers staying in Sri Lanka after the Easter attacks . He also plans to cancel all trips sold to this destination.
“Following the UK Foreign Office’s decision to call for avoiding travel to Sri Lanka, TUI UK has decided to fly all of its holiday clients back to the UK by air and is canceling all stays as of this Friday ” said the group, whose parent company is German, in a statement.
Travelers will be compensated in proportion to canceled stays and reimbursed in the event of total cancellation of their stay, says the group, responding to many questions from tourists, especially via social networks.
The threat of new attacks
The Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka could cause up to $ 1.5 billion in lost revenue to its tourism sector this year, the country’s finance minister said on Friday. From Germany to Israel to the Netherlands, several nations have called on their nationals to avoid traveling to Sri Lanka, or to leave the country if they are there.
Australia judged this Friday “probable” that new attacks will be committed there, while the hunt for suspects in connection with the attacks continues.
According to the German agency dpa, TUI estimates that around 150 German tourists who have booked a stay through its agencies also need urgent repatriation.
Suicide bombers struck Christian minority churches and luxury hotels on Sunday morning, killing 253. The jihadist organization Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for these suicide attacks.
