More than 150 people are believed to have died in Sri Lanka in two landslides caused by three days of torrential rains in the center of the country.
The flood forced more than 196,000 residents to leave their homes. Thirty-five deaths have been confirmed so far.
The efforts of rescuers assisted by the Red Cross are focused on the region of Aranayaka, 100 km northeast of Colombo, where three villages were buried Tuesday evening by a mudslide.
Authorities said around 150 people had been rescued but at least 150 others were missing.
Another landslide occurred in Bulathkopitiya, which is in the same district of Kegalle (center), resulting in the deaths of at least 16 people, according to police.
Rescuers also rescued more than 200 people trapped in the coastal district of Puttalam in the northwest of the country.
