An explosion was heard in Sri Lanka this Thursday, April 25, 40 km east of the capital Colombo, four days after the suicide bombings in churches and hotels that mourn the country. Police opened an investigation.
An explosion was heard on Thursday, April 25, outside a court in the Sri Lankan town of Pugoda, located 40 km east of the capital Colombo, police and residents reported.
No casualties are to be deplored, a police spokesperson said, adding that the first elements of the investigation indicated that it was not a controlled explosion. Two bomb threats were also lifted in Colombo following checks.
An investigation has been opened
Employees of the Central Bank in Colombo have also been instructed to stay inside the building due to a security alert, two sources have learned.
The access road to the main airport of the city has been closed, a suspicious vehicle having been seen in a nearby parking lot, announces for its part the airport police. Police say they have opened an investigation into the incident.
Sri Lanka is still reeling from the Easter Sunday attacks on churches and hotels across the country that left 359 dead and around 500 injured, according to the latest official report.
These coordinated attacks, committed by nine suicide bombers, including a woman , were claimed by the Islamic State group .
