Attacks in Sri Lanka: no French among the 321 dead

Sri Lankan security personnel stand guard in front of St Anthony's Shrine two days after it was attacked as part of a string of suicide bomb attacks on churches and hotels, in Colombo.

The Sri Lankan government retracted its Sunday statements, citing a nationality error.

The Sri Lankan government returned this Tuesday to its announcement the day before of a Frenchman killed in the suicide attacks on Easter Sunday.

“The French national who was marked as killed in the ministry’s press release of April 22 is a case of nationality error” , the Sri Lankan foreign ministry said in a statement.

The latest report from this wave of attacks shows 321 dead, including 39 foreigners and 45 children and adolescents.

India and the United Kingdom, foreign countries with the most victims

The foreign nationality most affected in these attacks is India, with 10 dead. Six British nationals were also killed. China, Saudi Arabia and Turkey have two victims each, Bangladesh, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal, one dead each.

Two additional victims had dual US-British nationality, and two others had Australian and Sri Lankan passports, according to the list provided by Sri Lanka on Sunday, when 17 foreign nationals injured in the attacks were hospitalized in Colombo.
